Whats A Great Way To Get High School Students To Join The High Schools Recycling Club?

My high school’s recycling club needs more members. There is some heav lifting involved, as we lift boxes full of recycled paper and dump them into the recycling bin. But i can’t think of ways to get people to join.

There are some of the coolest things made out of recycled products. Maybe showing a dvd or putting articles in the school newspaper about what can be made from what others would consider trash. The movie 11th Hour is great! For example, there are yogurt containers that are recycled and made into toothbrushes and disposable razors and those in turn can be recycled into fabricated lumber for decks and park benches. I think high school students might find that interesting.

Harsh as it may sound go for the shock factor! Make them aware of the facts and the scale of the problem and explain how they can make a difference. Id get some quite horrific pictures and blow them up into large posters plastered all over the school! Show them what can be done, the difference they can make and the positives to recycling.
Make it feel as though you and everyone else is taking part in something vitally important to the world. Take it seriously. Id even have targets and goals!
It is important to keep everyones interest too, monthly competitions and “bonding” outings could be fun and a great way of socialising and making friendships.
Get the guys involved by saying big strong men are needed to do lifting! Their egos will be unable to resist!

This is just an idea that I wanted to run by you, I work at a scrap metal recycling facility and we pay cash for old used car batteries, aluminum rims, etc…
Maybe you could try running some recycling drives and dish some of the proceeds to new recuits in your club?
If you think this might work for you, please email me back at tonya@catmax.net
Thanks

Try seeing how you can get money for recycling (go to local recycling center). Then figure our a good charity and really sell it. Say for example if its polar bears….a baby polar bear should do it.
Kudos for being in the recycling club.

Make it profitable. If you can get enough money from recycling, then it should be handed out for the work done. Why would a self-respecting high school student do something for nothing.
