I’m asking this because my uncle works at a landfill in Pennsylvania, and he told me that a good 50% of the garbage they get from NYC is the sorted recycling (from apartment buildings) in clear plastic bags. Anyone know?

So far, I’ve found WestPaw Design (pet beds, clothes, and toys), the SurfRider Foundation (Project Blue Surf Packs, i.e. wet suits), and Motorola (their new cell phone). Any other suggestions?
When the truck comes to pick up my recycling it looks just like a garbage truck. My husband says that it all goes to the same place & that he knew guys who worked for Waste Management who said it all gets dumped in the dump. So how do I know that all the recyclables that I so painstakingly separate, actually make a difference for the planet?
We have recently had to take our recycling rather than it be picked up. The bin we take it to is commingled recyclables- which means that it all goes in together. It made me wonder, is there someone that recycles all of this by dividing out the glass, paper, etc. or does it all just go to the landfill with the regular trash anyway?
I want to put a box in everyclassroom so my school can start recycling. Since it is going to be a lot of paper, is there some kind of recycling service that can pick up the paper from my school?
Many phones are donated to shelters for abused adults and children so they may have 911 (emergency only) communication.
We also provide cell phones to medical patients who are awaiting organ transplants.
In addition, some of the phones we receive are refurbished and redeployed in areas of the world where there are no land (wire) lines, or, where the cost of a new phone is prohibitive.
Phones that cannot be refurbished or donated will be recycled and disposed of in an environmentally-responsible manner.
